Road workers taken to hospital
Several work accident claims may be filed after three workmen were taken to hospital after being knocked down on a busy Aberdeen carriageway.
The incident occurred shortly after noon on the northbound carriageway of the A90 Aberdeen to Dundee road, beside the Charleston flyover, where a team from Bear Scotland were employed to do patching work.
The workers injuries were believed not to be life-threatening but emergency services were called to the scene anyway.
A spokesman for the Scottish Ambulance Service said: “We were called to the accident at about 12.20pm. We took three men to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary. One had a minor shoulder injury and the other two both had a leg fracture.
“The injuries are not life-threatening but they would still be very painful. The driver of the car was not taken to hospital. We only treated the three men.”
A spokeswoman for Bear Scotland said: “A road traffic accident occurred yesterday at a road works site on the northbound carriageway of the A90 between Charleston Interchange and Bridge of Dee where carriageway patching work was being undertaken.
“The traffic restrictions at the site were planned to be removed by 3.30pm but, due to the incident and subsequent delays to work, they remained in place last night.
“Regrettably, three of our operatives were injured in the accident and have been taken to hospital for treatment. A police investigation is ongoing with which we are fully co-operating.”
The Health and Safety Executive said they had acknowledged the car accident and would contact Bear Scotland to assess whether an investigation needs to be carried out.
A spokesman for Grampian Police said one car was involved in the collision and inquiries were continuing into how it happened.
Policeman over turns car
In similar news, an inquest will be held into how a Deputy Chief Constable of West Yorkshire smashed into a tree and over turned.
The DCC is believed to have been driving a Land Rover when it struck a tree at the junction of Lovers Lane and Atherleigh Way in Wigan. The vehicle left the road and overturned, according to Greater Manchester Police reports.
A spokesman for West Yorkshire Police said: “2 Deputy Chief Constable Crompton had been driving home after taking part in a four-day selection process in the south of England where he was on the board to choose high potential candidates for the Police Service nationally for the future.
“After a drive of several hours from Hampshire he was nearing home when the vehicle left the road and collided with a tree. No other vehicles were involved and there is no suggestion of any road traffic offences. He was thankfully not seriously injured in the accident. He returned to work last week.”
