Woman receives compensation for fall in office
The number of people who died or were injured in work related accidents has increased significantly over the past few years in the UK.
One of the major concerns for all organisations is to prevent accidents and ill health at the workplace by imparting proper health and safety training to the employees.
Public liability insurers have reminded bosses of the major benefits derived by a proper health and safety training to the employees
It would make sure that the employees do not suffer from work related injuries. It would make sure that health & safety becomes part of the organisational culture. Proper training would ensure that the employees who suffer from a work accident do not get demoralised and it would help in reducing the overall costs related to accidents and ill health.
Further, the law in the UK makes it mandatory for all employers to impart proper health & safety regulations to the employees so that they do not face any health hazards while going about their duties.
Types of workplace accidents that result in compensation claim
Insurers have noted some of the situations in which an employee is eligible to make a compensation claim:
Work accidents caused due to unsafe working environments – in case employees suffer injury due to unsafe workplace conditions, they are entitled to a compensation claim
Accidents due to unsuitable equipments – if employees are injured by faulty equipment, material or machinery, they are entitled for a compensation claim since it is the employer’s responsibility to ensure all the equipments are in a safe condition.

Accident at work
A woman in Attercliffe, who had filed for a compensation claim due to a work related accident, recently received £4000 in an out of court settlement. The woman, aged 30, was working at a leading building supplier in Attercliffe when the work accident happened, causing severe injuries as well as mental stress.
She was standing on a chair and arranging the metal shelves, not knowing that the cleaner had just mopped the floor behind her. When she rearranged her chair and stood on it, the chair slipped and she fell head first into the metal shelve. Due to her fall, she sustained cuts, bruises and a broken nose. Although her nose was fixed a year after the accident, she still suffers from breathing problems.
The personal injury lawyer of the claimant stated, “It would have been avoided had the cleaner warned Linzi she was mopping behind her. This highlights the need for businesses to ensure health and safety procedures are followed.”
