The holiday that turned into a nightmare
It has been revealed that a family of four are to file a compensation claim after their dream holiday they had saved up for, turned into a vacation from hell.
The family from Tamworth, claim that their time away was ruined because they suffered food poisoning at a five-star Turkish resort.
The parents of Hopleys Close, stated that they booked the two-week dream trip to a top hotel last month to celebrate their daughter’s 21st birthday in style.
However the family were struck down with a ‘serious gastric illness’ and state that this wrecked their time on holiday.
As a result, they have sought the help of a Birmingham Injury Lawyer firm to seek compensation due to public liability issues.
The 52-year-old father said: “It was quite a frightening experience. It spoiled a special holiday and we couldn’t wait to get home.”
Although the hotel itself looked fantastic, according to the family health and safety standards were well below par and poor hygiene was obvious.
During their stay the family reported that they often saw flies and other insects on the food and claim they were served undercooked meat.
Disaster strikes
The grandparent’s 11-month-old grandson was also affected by the virus, after the family ate a meal at the resort.
The family claim they were among dozens of holidaymakers who fell ill at the hotel. The father said: “I saw an elderly couple who were so poorly they had to be put on saline drips. We saw ambulances arriving to take holidaymakers to hospital. It was dreadful.”
He added: “I would estimate around 50 per cent of those staying at the hotel became ill. As we wanted somewhere really nice this year to celebrate [our daughter’s] 21st birthday, we saved long and hard to afford something that would be really memorable. That was certainly the case, but for all the wrong reasons.”
The mother furthered: “This was an all inclusive hotel, so we had already paid for our meals. But in our view the food they served was virtually inedible.”
Travel litigation specialist James Hendley, said he was investigating the family's claim for compensation: “We frequently hear from people who have become severely ill while staying at resorts which are supposedly family-friendly destinations and I am sorry to say that the Cooks' experience is not an isolated one and we expect to be instructed to pursue claims by a large number of other guests at this hotel.
“Tour operators have a responsibility to ensure their clients are staying in a safe environment and that the brochures give an accurate picture of the holiday they are spending their hard earned money on.”
Holiday break-in scare
In similar news, two children who suffered psychological injury have received compensation, after armed intruders broke into their holiday apartment.
As a result, the package holiday operator that organised the vacation, was ordered to pay over £5,000 in award money to the family who holidayed in Lanzarote seven years ago.
The thieves had removed the contents of the family's security box, including cash, jewellery, wedding, engagement and eternity rings. The family's passports, wallets and Visa credit card were also taken.
